Whitetail Deer
Whitetail Deer Hunting in Texas
Whitetail deer is the most populous species of hooved mammals (ungulates) in North America. Texas has the distinction of being home to the largest population of whitetail deer with an estimated 5.3 million in the state.
Whitetail deer grow in size the further they get from the equator. The average buck weighs between 150 and 300 lbs., but in the northernmost Canadian ranges can reach up to 400 lbs. Does can range in weight from 88 to 198 lbs. Some of the smallest whitetail are found in the Florida Keys, where they might only weigh between 77 and 110 lbs.
